Acne Types

There are four grades of acne, as well as several acne types from very mild to the kind that can cause serious and permanent marks and scars.

Here is a listing of all of these acne types:

Grade I (mild acne)

The mildest version of acne types is Grade I. This kind of acne manifests as a few tiny occasional eruptions of small pimples. People who get Grade I acne usually only have one or two pimples on their body. Plus, these blemishes do not usually get inflamed like some of the worse acne varieties.

Grade I acne is seen quite a bit in teenagers and kids going through puberty. However, sometimes adults can get it as well. If it shows up on adults, then the pimples usually manifest around the person’s eyes or chin areas.

These acne types can be treated using home remedies or solutions you can buy over the counter. If a person with Grade I acne does not take care of it early, then it can turn into Grade II acne.

These pimples in these acne types are:

Acne Vulgaris is one of the acne types seen the most. Acne vulgaris blemishes show up as the following manifestations on the body:

Whiteheads: Whiteheads can appear if the skin pores get clogged with oil, bacteria, trapped skin cells, and debris. It looks like a white bump under the skin. These kinds of pimples are not as long-lived as some of the other kinds.

Blackheads: Blackheads appear if the skin pores are partially clogged up, as this makes it possible for things like excess oil, germs and dead skin cells. They look black due to melanin being in the skin that then reacts with the oxygen in the exposed air. These acne types of pimples are hard to get rid of.

Grade II Acne types

Grade II acne types are more serious than Grade I.  There will be many more blemishes and breakouts of pimples and the skin will be inflamed and red. You can still attempt to treat this kind of breakout using products you can buy or get from home, but it can still progress and turn into Grade III, the worst of the acne types.

These acne types cause breakouts called:

Papules: Papules are red and inflamed acne types that are bumpy and irritated. They should not be popped or you can get scars.

Pustules: Pustules are more serious acne types that look like a red circle with white in the middle or yellow in the middle.

Grade III Acne Types

Grade III acne types are extremely serious and hideously reddened and inflamed. Sufferers will have tons of icky papules and pustules, as well as:

Nodules: The thing that is the difference in nodules from regular pimples is that they are much bigger blemishes. In addition, they cause pain and suffering. Plus, they make scars and can break out often and cause a flare up. If you pop a nodule you run the risk of causing serious scars and other skin traumas.

Cysts: Cysts are similar to the nodules, but they are full of pus. These also cause serious pain and horrible scarring to occur.

Grade III acne types appear all over the body, and can be seen on places such as your face, or your neck, as well as the chest, or shoulders, and back.  Like the other Grade II acne it causes major scarring. If you have Grade II acne, then you must go to a specialized dermatologist, which is a skin doctor.

Grade IV Acne Types

The most serious acne types are Grade IV. Sometimes these are called nodulocystic or cystic acne. It manifests many types of pimples and blemishes and red areas on the body. It hurts a lot as well and always tends to leave distressing and difficult scarring.  Strong prescription medications are needed to fight out these breakouts. Some of these types of acne are:

Acne Conglobata

This causes huge lesions and tons of blackheads and men tend to get it more than women. It will make horrendous and permanent scarring. Doctors haven’t figured out what causes it, but it usually happens to men between 18 and 30. It appears on a person’s face, chest, back, arms, and also on the buttocks and thighs. You must see a doctor to treat it.

Acne Fulminans

This is one of the acne types that also happen to men more often. It also makes severe scars and may form ulcers. It makes its victims get a fever, joint pains and multiple and horrible looking nodules. It is very hard to treat and cure and the sufferers are prescribed medications like strong steroids.

Gram-Negative Folliculitis

This is yet another of the bad acne types. It happens when someone can’t get rid of a case of acne vulgaris even with antibiotic treatments.

Acne Rosacea

This is one of the acne types that people over 30 can get. It is somewhat like a large, reddened rash that causes lots of tiny little bumps and blemishes that appear all over the surface of the skin. It causes a condition where you can see the person’s blood veins sticking out. It makes their nose swell up and get huge. You must be seeing a dermatologist to help get cured from this acne, as it can’t be treated with over the counter mediations at home.

A more serious kind of rosacea happens in women ages 20 to 40 that have never even had acne. It causes painful nodules, sores, and pustules. You can only get it on the face and it can remain for up to a year. It is treated with strong steroids and anti-acne prescription oral medications.

Acne Inversa

This may be the most serious of the acne types you can get. Breakouts of boils, along with abscesses and other types of blemishes appear on the breasts, groin area, and under the armpits. It is extremely hard to get rid of and causes bad scarring.
